Our Story

North River Sing was founded by Jersey City resident Liz Morrill in 2014 to give area residents the opportunity to experience the warmth of singing in a group, learn the wonderful, often powerful music of the Great American Songbook, and provide enriching and joyous entertainment for friends and neighbors. North River is a Dutch nickname for the part of the Hudson River that lies between New Jersey and Manhattan and as such reflects the chorus’s openness to members from all over the region as well as a metaphoric link to Broadway.

For more information and to learn how to join NRS, feel free to chat with any of our members after the concert or visit our website, NorthRiverSing.org.

North River Sing is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and welcomes any gift large or small. By supporting NRS, you are actively spreading community spirit throughout greater Jersey City.

Audience Sing-Along
“Take Me Home, Country Roads”

[Verse 1]

Almost Heaven, West Virginia

Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah River

Life is old there, older than the trees

Younger than the mountains, growin’ like a breeze

[Chorus]

Country roads, take me home

To the place I belong

West Virginia, mountain mama

Take me home, country roads

[Verse 2]

All my memories gather ’round her

Miner’s lady, stranger to blue water

Dark and dusty, painted on the sky

Misty taste of moonshine, teardrop in my eye

[Chorus]

Country roads, take me home

To the place I belong

West Virginia, mountain mama

Take me home, country roads

[Bridge]

I hear her voice in the mornin’ hour, she calls me

The radio reminds me of my home far away

Drivin’ down the road, I get a feelin’

That I should’ve been home yesterday, yesterday

[Chorus]

Country roads, take me home

To the place I belong

West Virginia, mountain mama

Take me home, country roads

[Chorus]

Country roads, take me home

To the place I belong

West Virginia, mountain mama

Take me home, country roads

Take me home, (down) country roads
