Bass II

Hair, hair, hair hair hair, hair, hair, hair!

Howdy, folks! Would it shock you to know that I’m a huge music fan and a lover of singing? Probably not, given where we all are, but it wasn’t until college, when my friend (gently) coaxed me to join him in the concert choir that I discovered the joy of singing with a group, and I’m so delighted to return to that joy with all you lovely NRS people!

On the subject of music, I am also a DJ for homegrownradionj.org! My show, The Andover Special, airs every Thursday from 1 to 3pm. Considering myself a music omnivore, I like to keep things fresh and my audience guessing with a wide variety of music selections and have played nearly 5,000 different songs by thousands of artists in my four and a half years on air. Archived episodes can be found here: mixcloud.com/theandoverspecial.

Speaking of extracurriculars, I am a long-time participant in the PAX Pokémon League, an all-ages, casual-competitive experience that uses the mainline games to recreate the gym leader challenge for all aspiring champs in the making. A former Hall of Famer and Gym Leader in the league, this year, I will be putting challengers to the test as a member of the Elite 4! My team theme? Pokémon with Rad Hair! It remains to be seen (heard?) if I will spend my time during battles belting medleys at my opponents.

Okay, so I’m obviously a gamer, but I’m also a poet, and I serve as the Executive Director and Managing Editor of CavanKerry Press, the largest indie, non-profit poetry press in New Jersey (we are very small). I have been with the Press for a quarter of its 25-year history, and have overseen the production and release of nearly 40 gorgeous, moving, and accessible collections of poetry and creative nonfiction.

I wish, more than anything, that there was more kindness and understanding in this world, and I try, always, to live accordingly.
