My name is Ayla, and I’m thrilled to be back for my 4th year as an alto with North River Sing! I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, where my love of choral singing began. I was extremely active in multiple school choirs, as well as extracurricular competitive choirs and all-state honors choirs. Singing and performing were enormous parts of my life. However, when I moved to NYC to attend college at New York University, my singing sadly died off for a handful of years. I missed it tremendously but couldn’t seem to find a choir that worked for me…that is, until I found North River Sing! It’s been a joy to get back to my choral singing roots and to meet so many other talented people via this great group. I also sing with The HoliDates (a caroling offshoot of Jersey City’s own The Prom Dates), and with another local pop-based a cappella group (still in its infancy – name pending).
By day, I’m an accountant at a software technology company called SimCorp in lower Manhattan. By night, I’m a full-time bike advocate, fighting for safer streets in Jersey City and beyond as a trustee of the nonprofit group Bike JC. I’m very involved in Jersey City locally, so you can often catch me at a neighborhood association meeting or a city council meeting. I’m also an avid Broadway theatergoer, a sports fanatic, and a travel lover who checks out the biking infrastructure everywhere I go.
